Connect, configure RTK, and walk your registered boundary corners to centimetre accuracy

About the DataGNSS NANO RTK Receiver
The DataGNSS NANO RTK receiver (also sold as the NANO Helix RTK) is the GNSS device we recommend for homeowners in England and Wales who want to walk their registered boundary. It is affordable (from around £80), compact, and connects to both a laptop and a smartphone straight out of the box.
With a free RTK correction service, the NANO achieves around 2 centimetres of positional accuracy — enough to stand on the approximate position of a buried boundary marker. No professional surveying experience is needed.

Your BoundaryFinder preview page has a built-in GNSS connection panel. Connect the NANO, click one button, and the map shows your live position against your registered boundary — updating in real time as you walk.
This method uses the Web Serial API, which is built into Chrome and Edge on laptops, desktops, and most tablets. It does not work in Safari, Firefox, or any smartphone browser — for those, use Method 2.
Plug in or pair your NANO
Connect the NANO to your laptop or tablet. USB is simplest — plug it straight in. For Bluetooth, open your device’s Bluetooth settings and pair the NANO before opening the preview page.
Open your preview page in Chrome or Edge
Navigate to your BoundaryFinder preview page. Scroll to the Connect GNSS Receiver card and click the toggle to expand it.
Click “Connect GNSS Receiver”
Click the Connect GNSS Receiver button. A browser popup lists available serial ports — select your NANO and click Connect.
You’re live — walk to your corners
The status bar turns green and shows Live. A blue dot appears on the map at your current location, and the distance to each boundary corner updates as you move. Standard GPS accuracy is around 1–3 m.

🏗 Upgrade to centimetre accuracy with RTK
Click Enable RTK Corrections inside the GNSS card. RTK uses signals from a nearby base station to boost accuracy from ~3 m to ~2 cm.
A free RTK service is already set up. Select rtk2go.com from the provider dropdown — the username and password are pre-filled. Click Connect and wait up to 60 seconds for the status badge to change to RTK Fixed.
rtk2go is free and community-run — coverage varies by area. For reliable nationwide UK coverage, OS Net (~£500/yr) is the professional standard.
Method 2: Connect with SW Maps
Best for: Android • iPhone • iPad — any smartphone or tablet

Android: OTG cable connects the NANO for data and power.
SW Maps is a free surveying app available for Android and iPhone. It uses the NANO as your phone’s GPS source, giving you centimetre-level accuracy on the map. Your BoundaryFinder report includes a GPX file of your boundary corners — import it into SW Maps and your corners appear as waypoints to walk to.

- Connect the NANO to your phone using a USB-C OTG cable (included in the Surveyor Kit)
- In SW Maps go to Settings → GNSS Receiver → USB Serial GNSS
- Select the NANO from the list
- Import your GPX boundary file via Project → Import
iPhone & iPad

Pair the NANO in iOS Bluetooth settings first
- Pair the NANO in your iPhone’s Bluetooth settings first
- In SW Maps go to Settings → GNSS Receiver → Bluetooth GNSS
- Select the NANO from the list
- Import your GPX boundary file via Project → Import
🏗 Add RTK corrections in SW Maps
Go to Settings → NTRIP Client and enter the free rtk2go service. Wait up to 60 seconds for RTK Fixed and accuracy drops to around 2 cm.
Method 3: Raw Data Logging for Free PPK Post-Processing
Best for: No mobile signal on-site • no NTRIP subscription • want a free alternative to live RTK
Instead of a live RTK connection, you can log raw GNSS observations on the NANO in the field, then combine them afterwards with a free base station RINEX file — a technique called PPK (Post-Processed Kinematic). No internet connection is needed while you’re out walking the boundary.
Enable raw data logging in SW Maps
Go to GNSS Settings and enable raw data logging at 1 Hz. Start logging a few minutes before your survey and keep it running a few minutes after, to help the processing software initialise.
Match the receiver type to your chipset — not just “u-blox”
SW Maps needs to know your receiver’s raw binary protocol to log it correctly. The NANO Helix RTK is built around the D10P module, based on Allystar’s Cynosure IV GNSS SoC — not a u-blox chip. Look for an Allystar receiver-type entry in SW Maps’ GNSS settings rather than “u-blox”. If you only get a plain .log file instead of raw observation data, this mismatch is almost always the cause.
Download free base station RINEX and process afterwards
Ordnance Survey’s OS Net network publishes RINEX data free via the OS Data Hub. Download the file matching your survey time and area, then process it against your rover’s raw log in free software such as Emlid Studio or RTKLIB.
NANO_RTK_xxxx, password datagnss) and browse to 192.168.4.1 — to check its GNSS and output settings directly, which can work even when SW Maps’ chipset detection doesn’t; or pair it as a Bluetooth serial port on a laptop and use RTKLIB’s STRSVR tool to capture the raw stream directly.
